About Us...

The Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) founded in 1916, is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the game of golf while continuing to enhance the standards of the profession. The PGA is divided into 41 geographical sections.  Each PGA Section operates within a framework of The PGA Constitution.  Many sections are also sub-divided into chapters for the geographical convenience of members.The PGA is comprised of more than 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals who are dedicated to growing participation in the game of golf.  

The mission of The PGA is to promote the enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf and to contribute to its growth by providing the services to golf professionals and the golf industry. The PGA will accomplish this mission by enhancing the skill of its professionals and the opportunities for amateurs, employers, manufacturers, employees, and the general public. In so doing, The PGA will elevate the standards of the the professional's vocation, enhance the economic well-being of the individual member, stimulate interest in the game of golf, and promote the overall vitality of the game. 

Each PGA Section holds elections each year to elect individual officers and maintain their own staffs, headed by an executive director who administers the operations of the section.  The Sections maintain a close working relationship with The PGA of America staff in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

With 178 members and apprentices, the Northeastern New York PGA is one of the smallest sections in the country. Its boundaries run north to the Canadian border and west to Massena, NY., on the St. Lawrence River. From there, the boundaries stretch down to Old Forge, NY., and through Oneonta, NY., to the Catskill Mountains. The southern border runs through the Catskill Mountains to Kingston, NY. The eastern boundaries encompass eastern New York and the Berkshire County of Western Massachusetts. 

The NENY PGA Section conducts various member service programs consisting of:  an awards program, an education programs, workshops and seminars, a tournament program and junior tournament program for participation by members, apprentices, and amateur golfers and other member programs.



History of the Northeastern New York PGA Section
The Northeastern New York PGA was one of the first PGA Sections established. It was formed in 1927, 11 years after the PGA of America was founded in New York City in 1916. The NENY PGA has been home to several golfing luminaries, including Gene Sarazen. "The Squire", as Sarazen is known, represented a number of NENY PGA clubs during his days on the PGA Tour.
