CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS
Below is some valuable information from PGA's cybersecurity advisors. Malicious attacks have risen significantly in the past two years and even more so in the past couple months so the following should serve as FYI and to be cognizant and aware of.
*****
The FBI, the Justice Department and other law enforcement agencies have reported a series of attacks that are being conducted against companies like us and individuals like you. These attacks are intended to compromise our company’s information and to steal your personal information, including credit card numbers, Social Security Numbers, health information, banking information and other valuable personal information. The Department of Defense (DoD) has even warned its military and civilian workforce be extra vigilant.
We are alerting you to this activity with specific instances and examples so you can protect yourself and the firm. Be extra vigilant as some of these emails are crafted with care and look very authentic.
Here are some things to watch for in your email as you work on your personal or company equipment.
- Emails masquerading as legitimate government and non-government organizations involved in the fight against COVID-19, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Centers for Disease and Prevention
- Emails requesting personal information so you will receive an economic stimulus check or other benefits from the government
- Offers of COVID-19 test kits or web sites offering registration for testing
- Messages that notify you of a positive COVID-19 test within our company or elsewhere local to you, sometimes containing malicious attachments disguised as protocols that the company is undertaking as well as a "flyer" that recipients are asked to open, read and print
- Messages with QR codes for you to use for donations or for ordering supplies.
HERE are two examples. There are many other instances, but these are making the rounds widely.
