COVID-19 Golf Operation Status Updates in NY & Massachusetts

Massachusetts - Golf Courses Open as of May 7th

Finally, the state of Massachusetts allowed golf courses to open up to golf effective as of May 7th. With increased pressure, Governor Baker and his advisory council opened golf courses to the playing of golf. Their effective policy for golfers is very similar to what it is currently in the state of NY. No essential employees in the golf operations/shop but a head pro can be present in the role of security and all tee times online, etc.

New York: Golf Status

No change since our NENY PGA member Town Hall update:

NY Golf remains non-essential and walking golf is still permitted. The golf cart usage remains a point of contention but there has been no official change in the status of permitting use of golf carts from the Governor's office, that the section is aware of. We continue to advise all facility and owners to seek your own legal advice and inquire with your local County Executives.

NENY PGA Section leaders plan to edit the Back2Golf plan and use for advocacy purposes to send out to all state and local government representatives and ESD Directors.

Obituary of Dick Osborne, PGA

As we announced awhile ago, our lifetime retired NENY PGA member, Dick Osborne, PGA had passed away at the age of 83 on April 17th at the Albany Medical Center. He was the prior owner of Sacandaga Links Golf Course in Northville, NY and is survived by Harriet Underwood.

NENY PGA Event Schedule Updates

• Stroke Play Champ has been postponed. Original date was May 19-20 and the Tournament Committee will continue discussions on a rescheduled date. They will also discuss an alternative option of combining the Stroke Play Champ with the NENY Professional Championship Qualifier as two majors to be played in one.
• May 26th - Pro & 3 Amateur at Colonie G&CC - Has been CANCELLED
• September 14th - new rescheduled date of the NENY PGA National Car Rental Assistant's Champ to be hosted by Schenectady Municipal GC

• Back2Golf - Allied Golf Assoc. Re-emergence for Golf Plan/Advocacy

NENY PGA Section will send out email invitations for our 7th Town Hall Video Conference directly to our members. You are encouraged to log in via the link provided so that we can track our members who attend the webinar. We will provide 1 MSR Credit for the Webinars but the only method to do this is to "know and track" if a member uses the Google Meet link provided. Calling in via telephone will not allow for MSR Credit.

PGA Reach NENY Giving Back to our Community

We're so happy to be able to give back to the nurses and staff that coordinate and allow us to bring PGA Golf in Hospitals to the pediatric wing. A $1,000 donation in the name of the newly formed c3 foundation entity that will be the charitable arm of the Section was made on Wednesday, May. May 6th (nurses appreciation week ). A huge thank you to Albany Medical Center and Joe Marello from Bellinis Counter for making this possible, where 100 meals were served to the nurses on staff.

NENY PGA Player Development & Junior Programming Schedule Event Update as of May 1st

* NENY PGA Junior Tour Series registration has been delayed until June 1st

* PGA of America announced this week that the Boys & Girls PGA Junior Championships have been cancelled.

*PGA of America has cancelled Post-Season activities for PGA Junior League - Regional & National Championships. Local, club-level PGAJL is still on for when junior group programming can begin and with the cancellation of the post-season, this provides flexibility for our local clubs to extend your own seasons and matches as needed

* PGA HOPE Chapter Funding is secured and has been provided flexibility as well once it's determined safe instruction clinics can begin in order to get in a program

We're excited to start up a NENY PGA Golf Tips segment to be aired on Wednesday's sports news with Rodger Wyland on News Channel 13, WNYT! Our own NENY PGA Section Vice President, and Head Pro & owner of Fox Run Golf Course was featured in the first one that aired this week on "G.A.P.S Tip - Grip, Alignment, Posture and Stance!
