PGA Career Consultants

The PGA’s Career Consultants serve as an employment resource and career counselor for PGA Professionals in their respective regions. Their mission is to positively impact PGA Professionals’ careers, assist employers, foster win-win employment relationships, and promote the hiring of PGA members.

Being a people-first person has been the hallmark of Wells’ career, a trait that will serve her well as she transitions into a new role as Career Consultant for the Central, Northeastern and Western New York PGA Sections.

Throughout her career, Wells has dedicated her time to help others appreciate golf while also making her mark in the industry. She is the first female to hold the position as Career Consultant for the Central NY, NENY and WNY Sections. She also spent the last six seasons as the first female Head Professional at Skaneateles Country Club in the Finger Lakes Region of NY.

Wells, a PGA Member since 1998, will bring a wealth of experience to her Career Services role that she began in the Spring of 2025.

What is PGA Career Services?

PGA Career Services, a component of The PGA of America’s long-term strategic plan formerly known as the PGA Employment department, is an expanded team of field consultants committed to serving the PGA of America Member and executing daily Career Services operations in conjunction with our NENY PGA Section Employment Committee Members & NENY PGA Section Executive Director. 

Our local “boots on the ground” committee and staff members are extremely familiar with the local employment landscape and offer services to both our PGA Members & Associates & Individuals as well as to employers/owners/key stake holder employers. 
Our NENY PGA Section Employment Committee and Section Executive Director work in tandem with our PGA Career Consultant and are available to meet virtually or in-person.

  • Ongoing planning and education help to build skills that show value to employers and position professionals for future employment opportunities
  • Setting goals and working toward specific outcomes in the short and long terms can help you improve over the course of your career.
  • Highlighting the value of PGA Education — in Golf Operations, Teaching & Coaching, and Executive Management — available for PGA of America Golf Professionals to focus on their areas of interest while adding to their skill set.
  • The new Career Planning Handbook is a valuable tool for golf industry professionals to use when meeting with PGA Career Consultants.
  • Don’t allow day-to-day responsibilities to keep you from working toward long-term goals and ongoing education opportunities.
  • Making a written plan for your career with a PGA Career Consultant, and referring to it on a regular basis, can keep you on track to reach your goals.
  • Building your career also increases your value to your current employer, which can be measured using tools such as Revenue Scorecard.
  • Keep your resume, references and other personal marketing materials updated, and create specific resumes that emphasis your skills for different types of positions.
  • Be open to non-traditional job opportunities at off-course facilities or international job openings as a way to gain experience and build your career.
  • Perform an honest evaluation of your strengths and weaknesses, and work to improve your shortcomings in key areas.

PGA Compensation Profile & Survey: 

  • The annual PGA Compensation Survey is known as the industry standard for providing invaluable data on golf professional compensation levels. The NENY PGA Section is proud to maintain an 80% completion rate of the annual survey keeping data relevant and accurate.
  • NENY PGA Members & Associates are asked to complete and update the profile annually and is an anonymous survey so that stats can be pulled by facility type, etc.
