Patriot Golf Day & PGA HOPE Join Forces Over Holiday Weekend

Throughout Labor Day Weekend, we will honor the sacrifice of America’s heroes, by shaping, changing, and saving lives through golf. Patriot Golf Day is the largest grassroots golf fundraiser in America, and now we have new ways to make an even greater impact on the lives of military veterans and their families than ever before!

Folds of Honor has partnered with PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) and will be conducting a joint fundraising campaign throughout Labor Day Weekend. Donations received will enable both Folds of Honor and PGA HOPE to better serve the needs of our Veterans and their families through the game of golf.

For the 2020-’21 academic year, Folds of Honor offered 3,802 scholarships to the families of military members who were either wounded or killed defending our freedoms, bringing the total scholarships awarded since 2007 to over 28,000.

This year, 2,500 qualified applicants went unfunded. And your support is needed now more than ever!

We invite you to join us by donating over and above your greens fee this weekend or contributing directly to Folds of Honor and PGA HOPE.

For more information on Patriot Golf Day and to donate, visit FoldsofHonor.org or Venmo @PatriotGolfDay.

World Handicap System & Club Authorization Date WHS

Reminder that the USGA is in the final stages of authorizing all clubs in the United States to use the WHS. This process, which requires a brief training session followed by a 20-question quiz, was announced last year and must be completed by August 31 for clubs to offer a Handicap Index to any golfer. Its purpose is to ensure the integrity of the new WHS.

This process of authorization is being conducted through USGA Allied Golf Associations (AGAs) - Massachusetts Golf Association & New York State Golf Association

There are specific results and consequences of not complying with this very important education/testing component that will result in the following plus additional actions:
• Clubs not completing the education requirement by August 31 will be marked as not authorized.

If any PGA Professionals or club leaders have questions, we encourage you to contact the USGA Handicap Department at hdcpquestions@usga.org or (908) 234-2300 ext.5.It is our hope that, together, we can ensure no golfer is affected on September 1.

Tom DeBerry Memorial Tourney Raises $13,000 for New PGA Reach NENY Foundation!

A huge thank you to all of those PGA Professionals who donated and all the players who played and supported "A Day for the Director" event which raised proceeds of $13,000! Please see messaging below from Heidi DeBerry.

*****
Tom would be so proud of his fellow PGA members and community. Currently in the works right now, is the purchase of several sets of junior golf clubs to be used at no cost for kids at two NENY PGA Section facilities that were near and dear to Tom’s heart - Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course where he was introduced and learned to love the game of golf and Normanside Country Club where he devoted his PGA career.

We look forward to keeping you informed as to how this funding will be determined to be used to help us meet the mission that all kids have access to learn and enjoy the game while promoting their professional development and truly “impacting lives through the game.”

This couldn't have happened without you!

Please mark your calendars now for next year’s tentative date of Friday, June 26, 2021

NENY PGA Section Board of Directors hosted a PGA Candidate Secretary forum virtually a few weeks ago, taking the time to ask questions of each of the four candidates running for the position. In addition, the NENY PGA Officers also saw each of the candidates at the PGA Super Regional Meetings that were hosted in Atlanta in February prior to COVID-19.

After the virtual meetings, the NENY PGA officers, felt confident enough in the choice to second the nomination of Kelly Williams, PGA (Kentucky PGA Section). The letter submitted this morning can be viewed HERE.
